Best of 2012: Top 12 Live Shows

Is it early?!!
It’s that time of the year where everyone compiles their best of 2012 list.
I do have my best of albums (Canadian and Non-Canadian) but it’s still in a work in progress.
For now I decided to make my list of the best live shows I’ve been to in 2012.
Since it’s 2012, why not make it a Top 12.
There will be some of the shows that didn’t take place in Ottawa but was simply “WOW!” when I happened to catch that show.
So here is my top 12 shows of 2012.

Kelp 16: Day three with The Flaps, Flecton Big Sky, Andy Swan, The Secret Loves & Jenny Omnichord

It was a busy Saturday for Kelp 16.
One was the yearly tradition at the Carleton Tavern.
This is my third year attending it.
What I love about the day show is not because of the music.
Its the delicious pull pork sandwiches they make every year.
It was a nice day show of music and playing there were Jenny Omnichord, The Secret Loves, Andy Swan, Flecton Big Sky and The Flaps.
Somehow I had the energy to attend this event.
All the acts playing besides Flecton Big Sky were my first time seeing them live.
I love the poster for this one. Something about that peguin.

Sweet “Kelp” 16

Kelp Records is 16 years old.
If only Think About Life was on Kelp, then they would be singing “Sweet Sixteen” for them.
For those out of the loop.
Kelp Records is a Ottawa based music label and its home to various artist like Jim Bryson, Andrew Vincent, Chris Page, The Acorn (who still calls Kelp home).
Its becoming an annual tradition celebrating the label’s achievement and to have fun with the music.
This the second year now that the shows will be taking place at the Mayfair Theatre.
My favorite is the Saturday afternoon where the event takes place at the Carleton Tavern.
I love the pullpork sandwiches they make, hopefully they will have it this year again.
I am more intrigued to where this secret The White Wires show is going to take place.
With that, the label is going to be doing a slew of shows in Ottawa on May 13-15.
Its also a first time that Toronto (May 12 at the Horseshoe Tavern) and Montreal (May 13 at La Cagibi) will be joining in with the celebration.
Last month Kelp released a compilation CD of 16 tracks commemorating its 16 years.
You can download the tracks for free.
Hoping for more wonderful years in Kelp Records.
Here are a list of who is playing this week in Ottawa with its lovely posters painted by Douglas Wilkinson and texted by Rolf Klausener.
