Playlist for Photogmusic LIVE on CHUO FM [April 1, 2013]

Happy first of April (April Fool’s Day) and Easter Monday.
I was suppose to have a phone interview with one member of Purity Ring on my radio show.
But due to rehearsing for the start of the tour, the interview didn’t happen.
So I had to scurry to make a load whack of songs to play for the one hour.
If you missed the show today, have a listen!

Review of Sigur Rós @ Scotiabank Place [March 29, 2013]

Sigur Rós @ Scotiabank Place

I didn’t shoot the show but it was amazing to experience their music!!

I wasn’t expecting on going to this concert on March 29th.
But thanks to a friend who had connections, I got to see Sigur Rós play at Ottawa’s Scotiabank Place.
The last time the band played in Ottawa was 2005 at Bronson Centre.
That was a show you couldn’t miss back then.
Now jump ahead to 2013 with six albums under their belt and a seventh album going to drop on June 13th.
The band has gotten bigger and playing to bigger venues.
(I didn’t get to shoot since I was sitting but I was happy to attend the show anyways! So bear with me on this review!)

Sigur Rós – Valtari Film Experiment on December 8th

“World Premiere Event! Public screenings on all seven continents. Join Sigur Rós fans from around the world for a unique program of short films.”
This year Icelandic band Sigur Rós released their sixth album Valtari.
The band did something creative called “Valtari Film Experiment”.
Sigur Rós gave a dozen film makers the same budget and asked them to create whatever comes in to their head when they listen to songs from the band’s forthcoming album.
The idea is to abandon the usual approval process from Sigur Rós, and allow film makers utmost creative freedom.
On December 8th, the Canadian Film Institute with conjunction with the Embassy of Iceland.
They are proud to present the Ottawa premiere of Sigur Rós’ Valtari Film Experiment at the Library and Archives of Canada Theatre on 395 Wellington St.
You have to be 18 and over to attend this because some of the video are pretty risque. (IE naked body parts on “Fjögur píanó” which was filmed by Alma Har’el starring Shia LaBeouf in the buff :P )
The events starts at 8pm and runs for about two hours.
Thanks to the nice people at Canadian Film Institute, they are giving away passes to this.
If you want to win and attend this event.
Simply comment on the bottom with your name and email.
Since there are no tickets, the lucky winner can skip the line on Saturday night but there are no assigned seatings.
It’s a first come, first serve seating. So better get there early!
Contest ends on December 7th at 12pm
.

Winner went to Alexis Bosse. Hope you will enjoy the premiere on the big screen

Sigur Rós – Valtari [Review]

Sigur Rós, you can say is the one of the biggest act coming out of Iceland at the moment right after Björk.
Today’s the day that Sigur Rós drops their highly anticipated album.
It’s been four years since they released Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust (With a Buzz in Our Ears We Play Endlessly).
Valtari translated as “Steamroller” is their sixth studio album.
Comes as a surprised for most fans since they announced they were going on hiatus and Jónsi busy on his solo material.

Record Store Day 2012: What I Bought

It was a cold and rainy day but didn’t stop people for Record Store Day 2012.
Surprised by the turnout when I got to Vertigo Records at 8:30am.
There was already people in line, I was around the 20th person.
Last year I was one of five people who got there at around that time.
I guess the buzz and hype surrounding Record Store Day is a good thing for the indie record shops.
I totally zoom by this year’s event.
Here is a list of what I bought.
