I can’t believe Andy Shauf‘s The Party is already 10 years old. It remains one of my favourite albums of 2016, and now the celebrated Canadian singer-songwriter is revisiting the record with The Party (10th Anniversary Edition).
The anniversary edition arrives October 16, 2026 via Arts & Crafts in Canada and ANTI- Records internationally.
Alongside the original studio album, the expanded release includes The Afterparty EP, featuring nine additional tracks: three previously unreleased songs, alternate versions, and demo recordings.
The first taste of The Afterparty EP is “losing,” one of the three previously unreleased tracks.
“losing” leans into the more melancholy side of Shauf’s indie folk-pop songwriting. There is an intimate, slightly hazy quality to the track that perfectly captures that late-night, after-the-party feeling.
It feels like the emotional comedown after the celebration has ended, when the night starts catching up with you.
As Shauf sings, “I know it’s a fight / and I know that I’m losing,” the narrator reflects on repeatedly arriving at their partner’s place after the party, a little too drunk and a few too many times.
That sense of regret and vulnerability gives the song its emotional weight.
Like much of Shauf’s work, “losing” tells a small, intimate story while leaving plenty of room for the listener to fill in the details. Its subdued instrumentation and melancholy atmosphere make it feel like a natural extension of The Party, while also offering a glimpse into the material surrounding the original album.
For longtime fans, “losing” is a welcome piece of the The Party era that has remained unheard until now.
Ten years later, Andy Shauf proves that the world of The Party still has stories left to tell.
