Today, the Montreal-based band Bodywash dropped the music video for “Lapsang,” the second single from their upcoming third album, Laughing at Noise, out November 20, 2026 via Light Organ Records.
“Lapsang” is a beautiful and heavy shoegazey indie alt-pop track that immediately pulls me into its hazy, atmospheric world.
There’s a gorgeous weight to the guitars, while the dreamy vocals give the song a softer, almost floating quality.
Bodywash balance the heaviness and beauty really well here, creating something that feels immersive without losing its melodic heart.
The song also carries a strong sense of place. According to Steward, “Lapsang” is an ode to Montreal’s Little Italy neighbourhood and the years he spent there waiting for the 55 bus.
I love how such an everyday experience becomes the inspiration for something so lush and expansive.
The story behind the song makes it even more interesting. The riff and verse were written during an ice storm, when a power outage forced Steward to work without a computer.
The frozen tree branches reminded him of the leaves of the smoky tea he was brewing, leading to the song’s title.
Later, Steward and Rosie recorded separate melodies for the chorus, eventually discovering that they could be woven together seamlessly.
That combination of personal memories, Montreal imagery, and layered instrumentation gives “Lapsang” an intimate feeling underneath all of its shoegaze grandeur. It’s heavy, dreamy, melodic, and beautifully atmospheric—a great second taste of what Laughing at Noise has in store.
The accompanying music video adds another visual dimension to the track, complementing its hazy and immersive mood while letting the song remain the main focus.
I’m definitely looking forward to hearing the rest of Laughing at Noise when it arrives in November.
