Carly Rae Jepsen Goes Bold and Experimental on Day and Night

Today, the ever-wonderful Carly Rae Jepsen drops her ambitious new double album, Day and Night.
This might be Carly’s most daring, experimental and exciting album yet.
Across these two sides, she explores love, relationships and life while taking her pop sound in some wonderfully unexpected directions.

As the title suggests, Day and Night is divided into two distinct moods.
Day is filled with sunshine, catchy melodies and lyrical pop moments.
There is a warm, dreamy and almost carefree feeling throughout these songs, making this side perfect for those moments when you want to relax, unwind and simply enjoy some great pop music.

Then comes Night, which completely changes the atmosphere with a more pulsating, club-ready dance sound.
The production becomes bigger and more adventurous, with a maximalist edge that makes it hard to stay still.
Carly describes the album as moving “from symphonic pop to dreamy psychedelia to high-octane disco,” and that range really comes through. Early singles like “On Wires” and “After All” offered a glimpse into the sun-soaked, left-field pop of Day, while “Motivation” and “Don’t Leave Me on the Dance Floor” showcase the forward-thinking dance energy of Night.

What I really love about Day and Night is how well the two sides complement each other. Day puts me in a chill and dreamy mood, while Night makes me want to get up and dance.

Whatever mood you are in, this is an album to get into.
Day and Night is ambitious, playful and adventurous, while still feeling unmistakably Carly Rae Jepsen. It is easily one of my favourite albums so far this year.
