Finally got a chance to listen to Eight And A Half‘s self-titled debut album which is out on Arts & Crafts.
Eight And A Half consist of:
- Justin Peroff (Broken Social Scene)
- Dave Hamelin (ex-The Stills)
- Liam O’Neil (ex-The Stills)
At first I thought or heard that K.Drew (Kevin for those wondering) was in this project but I was totally wrong.
All I have to say is “Wow! I actually like this album!”.
The album consist of ten tracks filled with indie rock with some electro-synth sounds.
It sort of reminds me of early Metric, Broken Social Scene if they went electro and similar to Brooklyn’s Bear In Heaven.
Also another band that just popped up is Nightbox.
At first I thought it would be a rehash of Broken Social Scene but it isn’t.
When you have tracks that is very upbeat rock with the synths on tracks like Go Ego, Two Points and Walked Into Diazepene.
Then you get a dreamy moody rockness to tracks on Scissors, Took A Train To India and Wait Up.
While “Took A Train To India” sounds like a dream-rock adventure on a journey to India.
Then the album ends off with a haunting and chilling sound of a church organ on My Forevers
I wasn’t expecting this album to be really good.
