Today, Filipino-Canadian, Vancouver-based singer-songwriter Janky Bungag is back with his latest single and music video, “Hangin’ Out & Hangin’ On.”
The third single from his upcoming album of the same name, “Hangin’ Out & Hangin’ On” arrives ahead of the full record, which is set for release on November 6, 2026 via Royal Mountain Records.
This is a swinging, twangy country-blues track that immediately settles into a laid-back groove. Bungag’s strummed acoustic guitar leads the way, backed by a plodding bassline and the gentle lilt of lap steel.
There is something wonderfully loose and lived-in about the arrangement, giving the song the feeling of rolling down a familiar Vancouver street with nowhere particular to be.
Lyrically, Bungag name-drops street names from his hometown while ruminating on bad luck, money and the consequences that come with trying to get by. His description of the song fits its rambling charm perfectly: “When your money rolls and flows through the holes in the pockets of your clothes, you might as well roll with the punches, too.”
The track keeps that easygoing country-blues swagger going before opening up into a bombastic big-band ending, giving “Hangin’ Out & Hangin’ On” a much bigger finish than its relaxed opening might suggest.
The music video complements the track’s personality, capturing the same offbeat, road-worn spirit while putting Bungag’s Vancouver references and storytelling at the centre. It feels like another glimpse into the world of his upcoming album and leaves me curious to hear how these songs come together as a full record.
“Hangin’ Out & Hangin’ On” is a fun, twangy slice of country blues with plenty of character, combining Bungag’s laid-back delivery with an arrangement that knows when to keep things loose and when to go big.
