Last night, I attended k.d. lang: has always been at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa which was a wonderful evening celebrating the musical legacy of one of Canada’s most iconic and influential artists.
Held in Southam Hall, the special evening brought together an incredible lineup of Canadian musicians and artists to celebrate k.d. lang and her remarkable career.
The evening featured performances from Jann Arden, Michael Bublé, Allison Russell, Jill Barber, Mariel Buckley, Wyatt C. Louis, Ron Sexsmith, William Prince and Jane Siberry, among several other special guests.
It was really something special to see so many talented artists come together under one roof to perform an array of k.d. lang’s most popular and beloved songs while celebrating the impact she has had on Canadian music.
From her early country and western swing roots with the Reclines to landmark albums such as Ingénue and Hymns of the 49th Parallel, k.d. lang has built an extraordinary career spanning more than four decades. Her influence can be felt across generations of Canadian musicians, making this celebration at the NAC feel especially fitting.
Ended off with all the artist plus k.d. singing Constant Craving.
The evening was not simply a concert, but a celebration of a remarkable musical legacy and an artist who has inspired so many musicians and fans over the years.
And if you weren’t able to be there in person, you’ll still have a chance to experience the celebration. k.d. lang: has always been will be broadcast on CBC Gem later this year.
It was a beautiful night celebrating an incredible Canadian musical icon.
