It’s been awhile since I last heard from Ottawa’s Kyrie Kristmanson.
Last time I saw her was at the Ottawa Chamber Festival last July.
Which she played with the Afiara String Quartet.
Now she is busy doing alot of her music in France. (If I am correct?)
Kyrie dropped this new EP on iTunes which is a preview for her full-length in September.
Here is the info on the EP.
The THUNDERSONGS are inspired by yearning—sacred or profane—as expressed in the poetry of the very first songwriters of the western world, the men and women troubadours of the Middle Ages.
These four compositions voice the wild passions of their desire, at times displaced in the messianic fervor of the Crusades.
Rendered in whispers and roars, Kyrie’s songs seem to reverberate in the closed quarters of the castle-fortress or in the colorful frenzy of the crowd.
First track “Bad Body”, I was surprised since it’s the first time I heard her sing somewhat rock like.
Mostly with the bass guitar and there is rawness in this song.

Then later we get back to what makes Kyrie amazing.
When she goes back to the acoustic folky side with Charlotte, River Dancing and The Crowd Is Singing.
Most the of the songs were written while Kryie was in France.
There is a France feeling while listening to all four tracks.
Mostly in Bad Body and Charlotte which is based on Charlotte Corday.
I am truly impressed with the EP and can’t wait for the full album come September.
Kyrie is surely a great singer/songwriter. Even if she has to move to Europe to creative interesting music.
The EP is so beautifully done!
