OAG Summer Celebration 2024

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of attending the Ottawa Art Gallery‘s Summer Celebration 2024. The event was a vibrant mix of activities, including the Annual General Meeting (AGM), a captivating Talk Show Panel, and the highly anticipated exhibition opening of “Through The Ground Glass: Reframing William James Topley and Ottawa’s Art Corridor.”
The AGM provided insightful updates on the gallery’s accomplishments and future plans, reflecting a strong commitment to fostering the local arts community.
The Talk Show Panel was particularly engaging, featuring thought-provoking discussions about Ottawa’s art scene and culture.
The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the exhibition opening.
“Through The Ground Glass” offers a fresh perspective on the works of William James Topley, an iconic figure in Canadian photography.
The exhibition features six contemporary artists: Lori Blondeau, Chun Hua Catherine Dong, Anique Jordan, Neeko Paluzzi, Adrian Stimson and Geneviève Thauvette.
These artists engage with image manipulation, hauntology, costumes and theatricality to subvert narratives and reclaim power through portraiture.
The exhibition runs until February 9, 2025.
