September 22, 2011 was a big day in Montreal and for Pop Montreal.
Arcade Fire put on a free outdoor concert at Place des Festivals of Quartier des Spectacles where Montreal Jazz Festival is held.
The result was 101,000 people came out to see Montreal’s favorite band.
It was more for the band to give them a big thank you to Montreal for supporting them all these years.
Also to have a fun party celebration in the downtown area.
The show started off with Kid Koala.
This was my very first time!
He actually came out in a Koala costume.
It was a cool set to listen to.
Loved when he played Moon River.
Karkwa was up next.
They put on an amazing show.
It was a coincidence that they got to open for them considering they won the Polaris Music Prize in 2010.
Now with Arcade Fire winning this year’s prize, it was a fitting touch.
Finally the big show came with Arcade Fire.
They started off with a movie style introduction.
The Suburbs (Continued) started off the show and the band came out.
I was there when the band played Ready To Start, Keep The Running, No Cars Go and Haiti.
I didn’t stay long because I wanted to Bixi bike to other venues to see what acts were playing in various venues during Pop Montreal.
Overall the whole show was out of the world and overwhelming.
Despite the stage being very tall (taller than Ottawa Bluesfest’s stage) and hard to get some of the good shots.
But at least I got the Montreal experience when they throw a free show.
Here are the photos.
