Yesterday afternoon, I attended Punk Photo Art by Ralph Alfonso, featuring music and performances by the legendary Remi Royale at FONO.
In collaboration with de Montigny Contemporary, the event brought punk history, contemporary art, music, and performance together under one roof, creating an afternoon that felt both like an art exhibition and a celebration of punk culture.
At the centre of the afternoon was Picture My Face, the Ottawa debut of Ralph Alfonso’s punk photography tour.
Presented inside the FONO HiFi Lounge, the exhibition draws from Alfonso’s extensive photographic archive documenting the punk explosion of 1976–79 and beyond.
Alfonso’s photographs offer a fascinating look back at a pivotal period in punk history, capturing the musicians, personalities, energy, and attitude that helped shape the scene. Seeing these photographs presented as part of a contemporary art setting gave the work another dimension, connecting the history of punk with the artistic community of today.
Adding to the afternoon was music and performance by Remi Royale, bringing a live punk element to the exhibition.
For anyone interested in punk history, photography, contemporary art, or live performance, Picture My Face was a great opportunity to experience a piece of punk history while celebrating the culture that continues to influence artists today.
