The first of two sold-out shows presented by Debaser at Ottawa’s St. Albans Church was nothing short of extraordinary. Featuring the incredible talents of Colin Stetson and FUJI||||||||||TA, the night was a mesmerizing journey through experimental soundscapes.

As soon as Colin Stetson took the stage, the atmosphere became electric. The first few notes from his saxophone were spellbinding, instantly creating an “OMG” moment that resonated with the entire audience. It was an emotional experience for me, as it had been a long time since I last saw him perform live. Stetson’s set included previews of new tracks from his upcoming album, The Love It Took to Leave You, which is set to release on September 13, 2024. His performance was undeniably one of the best shows I’ve seen so far in 2024.

Opening the evening was Japanese sound artist FUJI||||||||||TA, whose set was a captivating display of experimental ambient and drone music. Using a unique combination of pipe organs and an air pump, FUJI||||||||||TA created a soundscape that was both otherworldly and profoundly immersive. His performance was one of the highlights I was most eager to experience, and it did not disappoint.
