Ottawa’s Claude Munson writes uninhibited impressionist-folk.
Whether drenched in crystalline synths or stripped bare, Munson’s songs tackle modern life and love
with radical intimacy. His soaring, gritty tenor paints vivid pictures of hard promises and ecstatic joys:
atmospheric narratives that unfold, Rorschach-like.
In 2018, Munson will release “The Silence Came After”, his second and most fully realized album to
date. Equal parts lush and spare, it marries the naked soul of 70’s era Neil Young, with Talk Talk’s
spacious expressionism, and Krautrock’s motoric rhythms.

It was her closeness to nature and never-ending nights spent around a campfire that inspired Marie-Clo to develop her art. Her alternative pop, with its electronic undercurrent and conscious lyrics, showcases her deep love of dance, as well as a mature reflection on the world around her. Her eclectic songs tackle current themes such as politics, mental health, and love, but also conjure up a colourful and enchanted imaginary world. In 2017, Marie-Clo won TFO’s pan-Canadian search for francophone artists Planète BRBR, and was given carte blanche to participate at the Granby International Song Festival 2018, as well as at the Petite-Vallée Song Festival 2018. She celebrated the release of her debut EP Faune November 27 2017

Like glitter-infused jelly on toast, Ottawa’s Sparklesaurus spreads their shimmering sounds. The sounds can be described as living room dream pop – pairing the emotional rawness of garage with the lush tonalities of glam, set in a low-lit, carpeted living room. Cut into triangles with the crust left on, their self-released debut EP, titled ‘Perennials’, delves into dark truths about humanity through plant imagery and concentric wordplay – with an undercurrent of gentle optimism. These themes are set amidst a landscape of scaling synths, swirling guitar tones, colourful harmonies, and a stoney, muscular rhythm section.

Thomas Aguinaga (Drums/Percussions, Harmonica), Sam Gendron (Keyboard) and Marc-Antoine Moisan (Guitar, Vocals) are an Indie Folk band from Aylmer, Quebec, across the river from the no-nonsense, straight-laced, won’t-crack-a-smile-at-a-dirty-joke, capital of Canada. Okies bring together their eclectic individual tastes to form a unique and captivating sound that dips its toes, testing the waters, of many different genres. Said to sound much like Alt-J, Fleet Foxes, Ben Howard and Passenger, they prefer to step away from the labels and simply state that they play “honest music.”
