Eventide @ De Montigny Contemporary

Last night, I attended the opening of Eventide at De Montigny Contemporary.
The exhibition brings together works by Toronto-based Stanzie Tooth and Victoria-based David Kaarsemaker.

Eventide explores the qualities of light through two distinct series: Tooth’s The Blue Hour and Kaarsemaker’s Sun Dogs. While each artist approaches the subject from different perspectives, both examine light as both atmosphere and active force—something that simultaneously reveals and obscures the autonomy of the natural world.

Despite their differing endpoints, there’s a quiet cohesion in how the works engage with perception, time, and the shifting boundaries between visibility and abstraction. The result is a contemplative exhibition that invites viewers to slow down and sit with the subtle transformations of light.

The exhibition runs until mid-April, offering a thoughtful and immersive experience for those interested in contemporary explorations of nature and perception.
