She has released music under the name Boyhood since 2011\, when her lo-fi cassette releases earned her slots at festivals and showcases across Canada and the United States. Her songs are a signature combination of opposing elements: catchy and heartbreaking; relatable and alien.\nRunciman’s 2018 album Bad Mantras saw her surveying the fallout of a rough few years by way of sharp songcraft and bold arrangements. Gorilla vs. Bear debuted the record for streaming\, hailing it as “subtly brilliant” and “raw and beautiful.” The song “Drivin” – praised as a “gentle rock ‘n’ roller” by Exclaim – was featured in the Netflix series Northern Rescue.\nBoyhood’s latest record\, My Dread\, was written\, performed\, produced and engineered by Runciman. It marks her most painstaking musical creation to date – one that mirrors her introduction to motherhood. It was mixed by Kenny Gilmore (Julia Holter\, Ariel Pink) and mastered by Heather Kirby (Austra\, Leanne Betasamosake Simpson\, Le Ren).\nIn addition to her work as Boyhood\, Runciman assists in running Port William Sound\, an artists’ retreat and studio space north of Kingston.\n\n\nMy Dread (Nov 2022) by boyhood\nMr. Power\nMr. Power is a solo project that has evolved into a full fledged psychedelic rock and roll outfit birthed in 2020 after the release of the EP Romance. Danielle Savage\, David Lacalamita and Nic Hyatt exchanged ideas through a series of virtual and in-person residencies\, selecting 12 songs from 20 that emerged from the process to release on this record. Drummer Mili Hong has been there since the beginning of this project\, and joins us this evening to bring the songs to life.\n\nLOON CHOIR\nThis 8-piece experimental ensemble has been a mainstay of the Ottawa music community since 2009. In an intimate venue like Happy Goat\, this band is sure to blow you away. Loon Choir’s music and lyrics allude to injustice and the destruction of nature. It’s a tall order to fill\, and these musicians deliver with a live set packed full of enthusiasm\, spontaneity\, and sincerity.\n\nCHRISTINA BELL \nMulti-disciplinary artist Christina Bell hails from Gatineau. As a multi-instrumentalist and vocal chameleon Kelly’s skills in studio and on the road have been shared with Sarah Harmer\, Rouge\, Regina Gently\, Gentleman Reg\, The Burning Hell\, Allie X and The Hidden Cameras and more\, helping to create a well-refined music veteran. LHM Records\, a Newfound land label signed Kelly and released ‘Waves Deluxe’ May 2022 to keep up the album’s momentum. After Two MusicNL Awards and the East Coast Music Award for Best Rock Album and The Polaris nod\, Kelly McMichael is poised for action.\n\n \nLandon A.R. Coleman:\nAn Albertan living in Ottawa\, Coleman plays highly-stylized\, elegant pop. “I love Nat King Cole\, Jim Reeves\, John Denver… give me strings\, horns\, a strong melody.” says Coleman. His sound\, played by a rotating cast of band-mates recalls the retro-tinged eclecticism of Belle and Sebastian or Rex Orange County and the modern torch songs of Father John Misty. Like Losing a Fight EP I and II\, Coleman’s second and third releases (early 2023) are sonically rich and collaborative efforts\, including background vocals by members of Polaris-nominated Bernice and drums by Andy Shauf sideman Olivier Fairfield.

Less so that clouds could be documented\, stored in a digitized drive\, or reproduce a similar emotive state when reviewed through the screen. I just like to see it\, the diversion from an unpronounced or routine trajectory\, where being on-time or fixated in a state of transit is set aside. An instance when someone you have not been introduced to communicates they are having a moment without needing to spell it out. There is not so much to say\, as the gesture dictates that we are in the right place\, at the right time. The activity is to be immersed in a cloud formation or a particular spectrum of light. As if one were an angel – either about to vanish into thin air\, or appearing as though enmeshed in the image. Ambience. Maximalism forever being the terrestrial suggestion.
