SUMMARY:Sarah Bradley and Amanda Lowe
DESCRIPTION:Sarah Bradley\n\nSarah Bradley’s voice glows like a bonfire. Emerging as a formiddable new talent of the Franco-Ontarian music scene in the late 2000’s\, she was immediately scooped up as the voice of emerging indie-electro band\, FEVERS. \nThe band enjoyed almost immediate acclaim for their ecstatic mix of sweet hooks\, sophisticated arrangements\, and driving rhythms. FEVERS became a staple of the regional festival scene\, playing NXNE\, Ottawa Bluesfest\, JUNOfest and many more. At the heart of the band\, was Bradley’s unstoppable alto. It was only a matter of time before the young songwriter broke out on her own. \nFor The Kill represents Sarah Bradley’s boldest\, most sincere step into the limelight. Released in 2017\, the five song EP displays Sarah’s penchant for uncluttered lyricism\, and love for R&B\, Brill-building pop\, and the pioneering electronic artists who’ve come before her. Steeped in the romanticism of Carole King and Sade\, and the forward-looking arrangements of Eryka Badu and James Blake\, Sarah Bradley is a preternaturally confident talent\, just past the starting line of a long and inspiring career. \nAmanda Lowe\n\nBorn in Sri Lanka\, raised on Prince Edward Island and now residing in Ottawa\, ON – Amanda Lowe Warnakulasuriya is a multi-lingual singer-songwriter that writes music that can be sweet\, heartbreaking\, and enchanting. With just her voice\, her guitar\, a pinch of reverb\, and awkward wit she creates a warm inclusive vibe\, highlighting life’s dark\, cloudy and sunny days

SUMMARY:The Diversity Tour with Bonjay\, Too Attached and King Kimbit
DESCRIPTION:Girls+ Rock Ottawa\, DIY Spring\, CHUO 89.1 FM\, and Debaser present \nBonjay\nand\nToo Attached\non\nThe Diversity Tour \nwith special guest\nKing Kimbit \nForward-thinking pop duos Bonjay and Too Attached embark on The Diversity Tour\, poking fun at our current cultural obsession with ‘diversity’ as a box to tick. Together they embody Blackness\, browness\, queerness\, transness—but also so much more. \nThe Diversity Tour showcases “diverse” sounds in progressive Canadian music with broad appeal. From emo dancehall to deep pop\, Bonjay and Too Attached are a powerful pairing for fans of boundary-breaking. \nProceeds from this show support Girls+ Rock Ottawa and CHUO FM \nAll ages / licensed \ntickets $10 in advance (+ applicable service fees) \nWe acknowledge this event takes place on stolen territory of the Algonquin nation\, and we recognize Algonquin peoples as the original keepers of this land. \nAccessibility:\nEntrance accessibly by ramp. Main bathrooms down a flight of stairs but a ground floor bathroom is available (inquire with venue staff).\nBathrooms are gender neutral.\n++++ \nBONJAY is Alanna Stuart and Ian Swain of Toronto.\nDancehall-bred. Orchestrated like old soul. Driven by emotive vocals inspired as much by Feist as by Yolanda Adams. There’s a rawness to Bonjay: to the feelings\, to the voice\, to the sounds clashing. It sounds like something new. Their debut Broughtupsy EP established them with praise from NME\, The New York Times and The Guardian.Their highly-anticipated debut album\, Lush Life\, is out May 2018.\n@bonjaymusic\nbonjay.net\n“Sounds like the explosiveness of fighting to make a life for yourself\, and succeeding.” -the fader\n \nTOO ATTACHED is two siblings: Vivek Shraya & Shamik Bilgi.\nToo Attached grew out of Vivek and Shamik’s childhood history of singing devotional songs together in Edmonton\, obsessing over pop and r&b as teenagers\, and informal collaborations throughout their individual decade-long artistic careers. Their first EP\, Bronze\, was released in 2015\, which they toured across Canada while opening for Tegan and Sara. Most recently\, Too Attached were listed as one of IN Magazine’s 2018 Canadian Artists To Watch.\n@tooattachedpop\n“Angry earns its place among Canada’s most incisive\, radical and galvanizing albums.” -cbc\n \nKING KIMBIT\, originally Nguyễn Anh Thư\, born and raised on unceded Algonquin territory to Vietnamese boat people\, has performed and recorded in Jamaica and all over Turtle Island\, sharing love and knowledge\, which she believes are connected by similar roots. King has recently released her debut double-disc album LIFE LESSONS POETICALLY\, a collection of poetry with respective musical arrangements to illustrate the lessons learned and insight gained so far in her quarter century journey through intersections. Despite the inevitable presence of oppressive white supremacy and patriarchy\, there is beauty in telling stories of life and death\, revealing the healing and survival of women and the world.\n“Nguyen’s vocal inflections in her spoken word delivery had the crowd hanging on every line\, lending her poetic pen to everything from the ills of education and labour systems to her own battle with asthma.” -exclaim!

SUMMARY:Jonas Bonnetta & mal/aimé
DESCRIPTION:Jonas Bonnetta and his band (Mika Posen\, Adam Saikaley\, and Edwin Huizinga) perform songs from Bonnetta’s new ambient instrumental record All This Here on piano\, violins\, and electronics at General Assembly in Ottawa with support from Ottawa’s Mal/aimé!\n\n“All This Here\, the first full-length ambient work by Jonas Bonnetta\, is environmental music conjured directly from the places in which it was written.\n\nField recordings made on the coast of Fogo Island echo throughout the record\, and from their obscurity emerges a music like the dialect of vast landscapes. Horns glisten into strings or shimmer apart into the rumble of surf\, forlorn murmerings suggest some alloy of whalesong and cello. Particles of recorded footfalls collide in the vacuum of wind or woodwind and cold\, watery piano tones. All This Here sounds like a record of dawn and dusk\, of light that frets at the edge of the day.\n\nAs tidal arrangements flow one into another and wash themselves away\, what remains is something that feels more found than constructed\, a ghostly sonic geography. The album takes the form of a single\, sprawling field recording\, a map of physical and emotional landscapes in superposition. \nAll This Here explores something apart from the glut of modern curated life\, of memories laminated by filters\, contrived pageantries of person-in-nature posted for all to see. Bonnetta seems to be seeking a reality closer to that of the naturalist or nature writer than the hyperlinked world of his contemporaries. Some fresh province left off the map\, eloquent and permanent. He has compared the field-recording process to a type of foraging\, a hunt for treasures in the forest. In All This Here he assembles those fragments into something stubbornly pure.” \nOpening the night will be Ottawa experimental group mal/aimé.
