SUMMARY:Vernissage : Mélanie Myers - Ce qui touche au sol
DESCRIPTION:December 14\, 2017 to January 21\, 2018\nVERNISSAGE\nThursday\, December 14\, 5:30 to 7:30 pm\nAll welcome. Free admission.\n\nMélanie Myers uses drawing and the fabrication of objects to modify the all too familiar urban environment. Ce qui touche au sol (What Touches the Ground) is an observation of systems and incentive measures put in place to ensure the adequate administration of a city. To highlight certain variances in conduct\, the spaces assigned to the residence and the landscape\, as well as to traffic and contemplation\, are represented in a realistic yet improbable way.\nMÉLANIE MYERS lives and works in Hull\, Gatineau. She holds a master’s degree in Visual Arts from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (2013)\, as well as a bachelor’s degree in Art and Design from the Université du Québec en Outaouais (2008). In production\, she reconfigures space and describes situations through her installations and drawings. Myers’s process touches on various fields of interest: safety\, reality\, error and the middle class. Her projects have been supported by the CALQ and exhibited in several Canadian art centres and galleries\, including the Galerie UQO\, the Forest City Gallery and the Anna Leonowens Gallery. She has completed residencies at the Centre Bang and the Maison Scott-Fairview (2017)\, and works as a project manager at AXENÉO7.\nKARSH-MASSON GALLERY\nOttawa City Hall\, 110 Laurier Avenue West\n613-580-2424 (14167) TTY 613-580-2401 \nhttps://www.facebook.com/karshmasson/ \nOpen daily 9 am to 8 pm\, including holidays.\nThe gallery will remain open on December 25\, 26\, 31 and January 1st.\nFree admission. SUMMARY:NAC Presents: Pony Girl
DESCRIPTION:Pony Girl masterfully explore the tension between what we want and what we have on their sophomore album Foreign Life. Guy-girl pop vocals score the foreign lives we create when we cheat on a partner (“Adultery”)\, lose a friend (“All That There Is”)\, force a smile (“Foreign Life I”)\, and further divides separating fantasy from reality. Pascal Huot and Yolande Laroche’s alluring harmony is our paradox as we struggle to close the distance. \nThe Ottawa collective have been lauded for their “evocative soundscapes” (CBC Radio)\, and “musical depth quite astonishing to experience” (Exclaim!) since the release of their debut album\, Show Me Your Fears\, in 2013. \nAudiences have been mesmerized by their sets at festivals including Le Festival d’été de Québec\, Arboretum\, Ottawa Bluesfest\, CityFolk\, Ottawa Jazz Festival\, FUZE New Music Festival and on several tours of Canada. Pony Girl released their sophomore album Foreign Life through So Sorry Records on November 7\, 2015.

SUMMARY:Merganzer & Sonya Stefan present Passé Composé
DESCRIPTION:Arts Court Theatre\, 2 Daly Avenue (2nd floor)\nDoors 9pm / Showtime 9:30pm \nCo-presented by Ottawa Showbox & Mirror Mountain Film Festival \nOttawa musicians Merganzer and Montreal media artist Sonya Stefan present Passé Composé\, a collaborative live performance based on the theme of transformation. \nStefan creates dynamic live images from a combination of damaged film footage and video feedback. Performing with disintegrating equipment of all kinds\, from broken video mixers\, to scratched and worn celluloid film strips\, to glitched television screens\, Stefan transforms\, manipulates and overlaps projections in real time\, creating a truly unforgettable experience. She will be joined for part of the performance by fellow Montreal media artist Emma Roufs.\n\nMerganzer is the project of violinist Mika Posen\, combining instrumental soundscapes\, ambient textures and melodic interludes. Posen’s expressive compositions take the listener on a dream-like sonic journey. She will be accompanied on stage by percussionist Pascal Delaquis (Little Scream\, Claude Munson). They will be using electronic effects to transform the violin and drums into a unique palette of polyphonic sounds inspired by Stefan’s images.\nhttps://vimeo.com/241772814

SUMMARY:Petra Glynt LP Release Show!
DESCRIPTION:PDA PROJECTS & DEBASER PRESENT\nPETRA GLYNT\nLP Release Tour & Art Exhibition\nwith special guest MUZZY LEGAULT \nJoin us for a night of art\, live music\, and more. \nAlexandra Mackenzie\, a.k.a Petra Glynt\, is a multidisciplinary artist and musician. She has studied and practiced music since the age of seven making her beginnings in Ottawa as a singer and moving to Toronto at eighteen acquiring her degree at the Ontario College of Art and Design University (OCADU)\, majoring in printmaking. It was in Toronto where she immersed herself in the music community playing in a handful of bands and exploring improvisational and experimental approaches to music before starting her solo music project Petra Glynt in 2012\, emerging in reaction to the Toronto and International Occupy Movement with her first EP Of This Land on Healing Power Records. She now resides in Montreal\, Quebec. \nTogether\, her visual and musical practice work to empower her audience\, employing pop and experimental sensibilities. The visual world she creates represents her music with illustration\, screen-printing\, painting\, animation\, etc. depicting the chaos and beauty of the natural world and a resistance against old and dying power structures\, placing everyday people in positions of strength\, power\, and celebration. The music itself is a call to reclaim people power with the intention to boost morale during times of world disenchantment and acts as a reminder that magic exists. \n \nOttawa singersongwriter Muzzy (a.k.a. Gabrielle) Legault is a soulful new voice in the experiemental jazz-rap/hiphop space in the Canadian music industry. \nMuzzy has been featured on CBC Radio’s “The Morning” with Jessa Runciman and has collaborated with Ottawa producer Tev Bourque and New Jersey producer Subbdaio. She has sole-written and recorded over 100 songs\, some published. \nShe was one of the several artists selected to perform in the Ottawa’s Saw Courtyard [Arts Court] on stage to celebrate the one year anniversary of the print arts magazine Ottawa Beat where the “relatively bashful soul” was featured by Nneka Nnagbo. \nFor an online preview of the artworks available please join the mailing list at pdaprojects.com \nThere will be a limited edition screenprinted commemorative tour poster that will be for sale at the event. \n$11.50 advance (includes service fees). $15 at doors\nEmail debaserlives@gmail.com to ask about subsidized tickets.\nPurchase tickets >>>\nhttps://thepointofsale.com/tickets/12-01-petraglynt \nall ages \nvisit debaser.ca/accessibility for more information on this venue’s accessibility \nAttendees are expected to act with respect for equity and inclusiveness\, including but not limited to a zero tolerance for racism\, sexism\, homophobia\, transphobia\, and ableism. \nWe humbly acknowledge that this event takes place on unceded and unsurrendered Algonquin land. \nCONTACT\ninfo@pdaprojects.com\nPDA Projects\npdaprojects.com \ndebaserlives@gmail.com\n@Debaser\ndebaser.ca
