Unlearn & MP Shaw – Deep Blue Day [Listen]

Today the San Francisco act Unlearn & MP Shaw dropped their Brian Eno cover of Deep Blue Day.
The second single is taken from their upcoming debut album Secret Listener which comes out on March 24, 2023.
Their version of Deep Blue Day is relaxing moody soundscape of experimental dreamy ambient electronic track.

About the track by James & Matthew:
This rendition of Eno and Lanois’ seminal track from Apollo from 1983 takes hold of the oceanic essence that makes the original so compelling and holds on tightly for the ride.

In a genre rarely covered, the duo did not want to frivolously remake the song or lose the atmosphere that makes Deep Blue Day so magical. Employing a soundscape of gauzy shoegaze synths and guitar, a sea of white noise carries the ostinato melody of a child’s resonator bells downstream as it sails toward the stars.

The effect is simultaneously unique as it is reverent, and as tranquil and moving as the timeless track. Eno said it best, “Its sound is the sound of a mythical space, the mythical American frontier space that doesn’t really exist anymore.”
