Boys Republic – Rakish [EP Review]

Ever since I got a Bandcamp Fan Account.
I’ve been searching around to see what is good in the land of Bandcamp.
Then I accidentally checked out Boys Republic.
Their music had that 1980s New Wave Pop-Rock kind of sound.

Not sure why Bandcamp says Toronto.
I emailed the band since I was curious and needed more info.
Apparently the band is from Peterborough and consist of:

  • Ryan Kennedy
  • Jeremy Boyd
  • Shawn Bradley

They recorded the EP in Ottawa.
Also the band is doing one EP each month this year.
The release schedule is posted their site.
When I heard the Rakish EP.
I liked that 1980s New Wave Synth pop rock sound.
I know the vocals is kind of rough on the edges but I will get used with it.
Sort of reminds me of Destroyer’s Kaputt with the whole saxophone listening to the radio really late at night.
Here are the tracks on the EP which is free to download.

  • Defamer
  • Pictures
  • Make You Happy
  • Bad Habits

RIYL: Destroyer, Bryan Ferry, David Bowie and Spiritualized
I’d give this EP 8/10.
