I was fortunate enough to catch Otoboke Beaver on July 21, 2026, at the Bronson Centre in Ottawa, and it was easily one of the most energetic punk shows I’ve seen this year.
Ever since I heard that the Kyoto punk quartet had served as guest curators for Sled Island in Calgary last year, I knew I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to see them live when they announced their first-ever Ottawa performance.
From the moment the band hit the stage, Otoboke Beaver unleashed a relentless barrage of high-energy punk rock that had the packed crowd moving from the very first song. Their fast-paced riffs, thunderous rhythm section, and charismatic stage presence created an electric atmosphere that never let up throughout the night.
The audience’s excitement quickly turned into chaos in the best possible way, with fans attempting to crowd surf several times during the set. Security had to intervene on more than one occasion to keep everyone safe, but the band didn’t seem fazed in the slightest.
Instead, they embraced the wild energy of the room, encouraging the crowd with their infectious enthusiasm.
Despite joking about their English between songs, their passion and personality transcended any language barrier, proving that great punk rock speaks for itself.
Otoboke Beaver’s Ottawa debut was loud, fast, unapologetic, and incredibly fun.
It was one of those performances that reminded everyone why live punk shows are such a thrilling experience.
I left the Bronson Centre with ringing ears and a huge smile, grateful that I finally had the chance to see one of Japan’s most exciting punk bands perform live.
Opening the evening was Ottawa’s own Passenger Princess, who warmed up the crowd with an explosive blend of garage rock and pop-punk. Their energetic set perfectly set the tone for the night’s headliner, getting the audience fired up long before Otoboke Beaver took the stage.
