Today the Toronto act Symphony Orchestra which is the new group from Maximilian Turnbull (The Badge Époque Ensemble) and Michael Rault drop the track called Radiant Music.
The third and final single is taken from their debut LP Radiant Music which comes out May 12, 2023 via Telephone Explosion.
An infectious catchy retro funky soul rock vibe tune.
About the track from Symphony Orchestra:
“This one was the first song we worked on back when Symphony Orchestra was just a gleam in Max’s eye, so to speak,” Rault explains.
“Compositionally it was unique in that it was almost all Max is at least in terms of the traditional sense of songwriting.
He brought the chords & lyrics and main riffs for all the sections, and even had three part harmonies mostly plotted out with vocoder for at least the A section…I think I may have arranged the harmony in the B section and maybe written that melody but I’m not 100% certain of that.
I changed a few notes in the harmonies he had already written, but very little.
I definitely brought a groove and wrote the bass line throughout which serves as a sort of melodic counterpoint to what Max already had.
The song clearly is an homage to music and it’s potent mystical powers.
My favorite lyric is “music to wash the salt away” which seemed to me to be such a Canadian / Northern turn of phrase, since in the winter your boots and pants can tend to get covered in the salt from the frozen sidewalks and streets.”
