Today the Montreal/Sweden band Thus Owls dropped the music video for Who Would Hold You?
The third and final single is taken from their upcoming epic double album called Who Would Hold You If The Sky Betrayed Us? which will be releasing on March 4, 2022.
A unique blend of spoken word and experimental jazz and art rock music.
About the track:
The track ”Who Would Hold You?” is an example of the latter.
« You could think of it as two songs, like siblings; related. The first part was always referred to as the ”boxing match” in rehearsals; “Play what you want around the note Db and imagine a boxing match!”. The second part being a free for all improvisation over a fun groove, that ends up in a sort of climax where melody, lyric and improvisation aline and shine like the summit of a mountain. The poetry describes intricate patterns and developments between two lovers and transforms into a prayer, sung by a mother for her child. » describe Erika and Simon Angell.
The clip is directed by Erika who explains its creation as follows: « Since the lyrics are central for this two-folded musical piece it made sense to highlight them also in the video. A collage of images and words lift forward the poetry and the pulse of the intro, to finally fall into a more organic landscape once the groove sets in. All of a sudden we’re on a sped up journey in a wintery landscape. The upperlayer being rather playful, with naive images of an unstoppable band playing, underscored with a sense of urgency, as if stuck in a repetitive dream. »
