Last Friday marked a standout day at the 2026 edition of the Wavelength Music Festival, packed with thoughtful discussions and an eclectic lineup of performances across the city.
I started things off at Lula Lounge, taking in a pair of insightful panels—Pulse Check on Canada’s Festivals + Touring Landscape and Curating with Authenticity.
Both conversations offered a timely look into the evolving state of live music, especially from a Canadian perspective.

The evening began upstairs at St. Anne’s Anglican Church with a diverse program that blended poetry and music.
Readings from Farhia Tato and Eva HD added a reflective tone, while bikebike delivered an engaging set of instrumental electro-breakbeat rock. Montreal’s Bibi Club followed with a captivating performance, and Melissa Auf der Maur offered a compelling reading from her memoir Even the Good Girls Will Cry: My 90s Rock Memoir.
I also caught part of Bad Waitress’s loud, high-energy punk set before heading to the next venue.

The real highlight—and the main reason I made the trip was catching Lucid Express live at The Baby G.
Although I missed the opening act Pizza Bush, walking into a crowd buzzing with Cantonese-speaking fans added to the excitement and sense of community.
Before their set, Montreal artist Hélène Barbier delivered a mesmerizing performance featuring material from her 2025 album Panorama which is a compelling mix of experimental, avant-garde, and alternative pop sounds.

Then came Lucid Express, who fully lived up to the anticipation.
Drawing from their self-titled debut and Instant Comfort, they created a lush, immersive haze of shoegaze and dream pop.
Seeing a Hong Kong band command the stage with such presence—and to a crowd that clearly felt connected—made the moment even more special.

Closing out the set at The Baby G was Casper Skulls, delivering a strong mix of indie and alternative rock to cap off the venue’s lineup.

I wrapped up the night back downstairs at St. Anne’s Anglican Church, catching sets from Status/Non-Status and an explosive, high-volume performance by Ribbon Skirt that sent the night out on a powerful note.
