Ottawa Showbox & Arboretum Festival present…
Tasseomancy (Toronto experimental)
Soft synths and crystalline harmonies merge hypnotically on ‘Dead Can Dance and Neil Young’, an invitation to “fade into folk song”. If folk song this is, it’s folk of great idiosyncrasy, where vocoded chorales provide atmospheric shading and alto-saxophones drift like cigarette smoke from a David Lynch dream-film. Between the new age synth of “Claudine & Annie”, ambient swoon of “29 Palms”, Kate Bush-like prog-psych of “Missoula” and gently lapping title-track, Do Easy plays like pop from a parallel world.
Mega Bog (Brooklyn experimental)
Mega Bog is the moniker of song-dribbler Erin Birgy, a Pacific Northwest rodeo child with an unmistakable laugh who was allegedly cursed upon conception. Over the past 8 years the band has stretched and wandered in a crescendo towards musical freedom. Now based in New York City, Birgy has adopted a band of wiggly jazz cartoons lifted from bands like Big Thief, iji, Big Eater, Causings, Hand Habits, Heatwarmer and others.
RAAS (Ottawa electronic)
raas is the electronic duo of Kerry Campbell and Michael Caffrey. they work with a circulating array of synths, sequencers, tone generators, beat machines, homemade and circuit bent devices, to perform and record live electronic music : while generating raw, hacked and manipulated visuals.
