Went to a interesting show at Pressed on July 31, 2012.
Playing at the show:
Calvin Johnson

Katie & The Lichen

Vancouver’s Katie & The Lichen started off the show.
Their music was very indie folk pop with some added punkness.
I really enjoyed their set, had that catchy and upbeat feel.

Then it was Calvin Johnson’s turn to come out.
I was kind of curious about him.
People I’ve talked to wanted to see him since he founded K Records.
I still can’t believe he has worked with such musicians like Beck, Modest Mouse, The Go Team, The Gossip and many more.
He sang with a guitar and no mics.
The way he sang was very deep sounding.
For the first two songs, I was sitting near the front and I tried to keep a straight face.
I was so afraid if I chuckled I would have a beat down by Calvin.
So I decided to stand in the back.
There was song or as I call it a spoken word piece. He kept yelling out words, some of the words I thought raised some eyebrows.
It was definitely a quirky but interesting set to see.

Here are the rest of the photos.
Also at the show I got to hang and chat with Mitch of Southern Souls & Stephen Hargreaves.
Both are in Ottawa filming for Hilotrons for a video sessions.
It was kind of a wow moment.
