Carly Rae Jepsen Gets Personal on Dancefloor-Ready “Motivation”

Now we get a second Night track from Carly Rae Jepsen’s upcoming double album Day and Night, which arrives September 18, 2026 via Interscope.
A few weeks after dropping the ABBA-esque disco-pop rush of “Don’t Leave Me on the Dance Floor,” Carly is back with “Motivation,” another Night cut that takes things in a more dancey, electro-club-pop direction.

“Motivation” is the kind of track that immediately makes you want to move.
Built around a hypnotic, glittering house-inspired production, it has that late-night club energy Carly does so well, but underneath all the glossy production is something much more personal.
The song reflects on family, inherited patterns and the expectations that can come with growing up.
Rather than simply running away from those complicated feelings, Carly uses “Motivation” as a way of making peace with them.
She describes it as a “little family anthem” that acknowledges the complicated parts of family while leaving room for the idea of chosen family, too.
That personal theme gives “Motivation” a surprising emotional weight beneath its dancefloor-ready exterior.
It is catchy, euphoric and built for the club, but there is something vulnerable happening underneath all those shimmering synths and pulsating rhythms.
Carly wrote “Motivation” with Cole M.G.N., who also produced the track alongside Kyle Shearer.
Together, they create a sleek electronic backdrop that lets Carly’s vocals sit comfortably between introspection and pop euphoria.
With “Don’t Leave Me on the Dance Floor” and now “Motivation,” the Night side of Day and Night is already shaping up to be an exciting collection of dance-pop tracks.
If the rest of the album follows this direction, Carly Rae Jepsen may have another very fun pop record on her hands.
For now, “Motivation” is another reason to get ready for the dancefloor when Day and Night arrives this September.
