Today the Vancouver cumbia psych-rock band Empanadas Ilegales dropped the live session music video for Tobogan.
The second single is taken from the album Creepy Mambo: Rooftop Sessions which comes out April 5, 2024 via Chandra Oppenheim’s label We Are Time.
An epic latin cumbia jazz and funk tune.
About the track:
“Tobogan,” a cover of the track originally known as “El Tobogan” by Peruvian group Los Benfords, was the first salsa song that Empanadas Ilegales learned to play.
After drummer Fortes spent months teaching himself its rhythm, the band “empanadized” the song with the addition of heavy rock riffs, layering guitar and sax solos that blared at full blast. “We go and go and go,” says Perez with a gleeful laugh, “and then we blow your mind.”
