Ottawa’s Hilotron will be my first album review of 2013.
I think it is the final album for Mike as Hilotrons.
Note: Hilotron will be releasing more albums, expect another one this year!
The confusion is that the original players will not be touring but Hilotron lives on!
Anyways the band has been a staple and a hidden gem in Ottawa’s music scene.
It’s been almost five years since Happymatic.
Originally slated for November 13,2012 but with the fourth quarter being inundated with “Christmas and Greatest Hits albums”.
The album officially drops on February 5, 2013.
At Least There’s Commotion is 11 tracks of electro-pop rock music that everyone should be familiar with Hilotrons.
Conceptual at times which is good!
Here is a quote about the album:
The album’s storyline weaves from heartbreak to reconciliation, through the eyes of those who suffer from personality disorders, as well as their friends and lovers.
Albums starts off with a upbeat LCD Soundsystem/80s New Wave inspired track “Venus At My Backdoor”.
Which I think is the standout tracks.
With the help of Jeremy Fisher on the catchy track “Runaway Heart”.
Then we get mellow and personal on “Not There Tonight” and “My Number”.
Love the orchestral-chamber pop setting in She Knows My Condition (Part 1) while the follow-up on She Knows My Condition (Part 2) goes pretty wild!
Uncontrollable Me / Uncontrollable You and Modern Way Woman are great fun upbeat tracks.
Danger World is one big epic track
Then the final track “Emergency” which is a cover of Yellow Jacket Avenger.
The singer is not Mike Dubue, it is Sacha Gabriel, which has that dreamy pop Kate Bush sound.
People who helped out on the album:
- Paul Hogan
- Phil Bova
With special guests:
- Jim Bryson
- Lynn Myles

- Michael Feurstack
Overall this is definitely their best and strongest work to date.
Best tracks:

- Runaway Heart
- Not There Tonight
- She Knows My Condition (Part 1 & 2)
- Uncontrollable Me / Uncontrollable You
- Modern Way Woman
- Emergency
