In love with Cults! [NXNE 2011]

At NXNE 2011, I didn’t get a chance to see them live.
But was very lucky enough to do a interview with Brian Oblivion and Madeline Follin of the New York band CULTS.
The interview took place on a sunny Saturday June 18th at the Residence Inn Hotel.
Something happened, my audio interview with Cults miraculously disappeared.
So it will be hard for me to remember what both of them answered to my questions.
Considering at that point of time I was very nervous and almost to the brink of exhaustion from attending NXNE.
Brian and Madeline were very nice, funny and down to Earth.

Anyways CULTS just did a show on Friday night at Lee’s Palace.
Both said their set was really great and was enjoying their time at NXNE and Toronto.
Both were curious about the rap/hip-hop scene is like in Canada.
If it’s like the music of Drake, I was like no way!
We don’t sing about pimps and ho’s and we mostly sing about social commentary.
I recommended them to check out Shad.
I mentioned about the band name.
On if they have gotten any legal issues, which they haven’t.
Brian mentioned it would be stupid if people didn’t know the difference between “The Cult” and “Cults”.
But both mentioned that today it’s hard getting just normal band because of legal issues and having to go with weird and creative way naming a band. For example: The Doors.
I asked them if the music they write were inspired by real life or like to make up stories.
Brian said they like to make up stories when making the music.
They wouldn’t want to write the typical songs about relationship.
I asked them if they wouldn’t mind if their songs were remixed.
Madeline said they wouldn’t mind if the songs were remixed.
As for my favorite last questions on what their favorite format of music.
Both said it’s between CDs and LPs but mostly LPs.

All I can say is I was happy to meet them in person despite not having the audio interview around.
But at least I got a photo with them for those who don’t believe me.

I am really loving their debut album.
Can it be the best album of 2011?
