It was a lovely summer-like night of acoustic music at Raw Sugar Cafe on May 24, 2011.
Mostly excited to see all three acts which were:
The first act was THOMAS.
If you don’t know who Thom Gill is, you must have seen play alongside with Owen Pallett last year.
Besides playing along side with other Toronto bands, I finally got a chance to see his set.
It was more of a stripped down set with just his guitar along with a double bass player.
It was nice and giddy set.
Noticed that Thom’s guitar had a photo of Justin Bieber 😛
Thom mentioned to me that Owen Pallett has a new band at the moment and it’s far different from what we are used to with his solo stuff.
Second was Kat Burns.
This was the closest for Forest City Lovers related in Ottawa for 2011.
It was cool to see Kat Burns go solo since I never seen her live without a band.
Kat happened to used Thom’s “Justin Bieber” guitar.
The set was intimate and parts abit too funny when she tried to get the audience to do a sing along.
Also do some feet tapping on “If I Were A Tree”.
She played Forest City Lovers tracked and it was more of a stripped down version which I haven’t heard.
Here is a video I took which she played Country Roads.
Kat mentioned that Forest City Lovers will be back in Ottawa sometime in the fall.
Lastly it was Kite Hill.
I haven’t seen them live since October 14, 2010.
There was a bit of Olenka and The Autumn Lover’s connection since Sara Froese was playing violin for Kite Hill.
It was sort of a album release show since they only had digital drop cards available (which you can plant and turn into wildflowers)
It was a beautiful and lovely set even without a drummer it was still amazing to hear live.
Love the part where some of the audience got to use the sleigh bells.
Wonder orchestral pop music to be enjoyed that night!
Overall it was a wonderful evening for all three acts playing at Raw Sugar Cafe which pretty much suited them and best for them to play at.
