Brooklyn-based musician Matt Bachmann has shared his latest track, “Heavy Step.”
The crystalline piano-led instrumental is the second single from his forthcoming album Compost Karaoke, set for release on September 12, 2025 via Orindal Records.
Though brief, the piece shimmers with a dreamlike clarity, offering a delicate and introspective moment that hints at the album’s contemplative direction.
About the track by Matt:
“Heavy Step” is a regal dirge told in three parts.
It opens with a fanfare of bombastic bass clarinets glissandoing up/down octaves and going through too many pedals to count.
The center finds the listener in a moment of introspection, with one’s thoughts following the shining Harold Budd-esque piano melody and one’s feet softly stomping to the enduring synth pad/lo-tom quartet-note pulse.
Counter melodies played on synthetic French horns and strings rise and fall as the listener tramps forward, only to find themselves back where they started in pomp and glissandoing grandiosity.
