Today, Montreal musician Paper Beat Scissors dropped the music video for Gracia.
The second single is taken from his first Spanish language album La Mitad which comes out on April 30, 2021 via Forward Music Group (Canada) and Seayou Records (Europe).
La Mitad is composed of translations from his 2019 release Parallel Line.
Gracia is the Spanish take of Grace.
The music video is a beautifully done animation.
About the track:
This new single, “Gracia” marks another scintillating cut from the new EP following on the heels of the Beats Per Minute and Folk Radio UK-tipped single “Formas.”
“‘Gracia’ is a song about how every one of us is flawed,” explains Crabtree. “In confronting this fallibility there is tremendous power that kindness and acceptance from others can have in the face of our own failures.”
Musically the string quartet and finger-picked acoustic guitar move in concert, languidly, back and forth between disorienting, tense chords and peaceful resolutions in the verses before the plaintive cried question of the first chorus “Me mandas fuera hacia al frío ¿es eso tanto?”/“You send me out in the cold: is it enough?” is answered in the second “no es tanto”/“it’s not enough”.
The dreamlike accompanying animated video explores and plays with the theme of transition, a theme perfectly mirrored through its many shifts in animation styles.
