Today, Saint John, NB’s Penny & The Pits which is the project of Motherhood‘s Penelope Stevens has dropped their debut single, “Montenegro On Ice,” via Forward Music Group.
The track is a heavy, alt-rocking tune that channels the raw energy and attitude of bands like Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Amyl & The Sniffers.
Stevens’ fierce vocal delivery rides over gritty guitar riffs and a driving rhythm section, creating a sound that’s both chaotic and cathartic. “Montenegro On Ice” is a bold introduction, packed with intensity and an unapologetic edge that leaves a lasting impression.
If this single is any indication, Penny & The Pits are poised to become a powerful force in the Canadian rock scene.
About the track by Penelope:
“Montenegro on Ice explores memory and the ways in which the past can seep out of its box and drown your present and future.
I was feeling the temptation to stew in past pain, choosing to really live in it, y’know? It’s so easy to stick your fingers in your own wounds.
So I wanted to make a song that had a jaunty little limp, an endearing disfigurement, that could illustrate the way I was feeling at the time – wounded, absolutely, but sort of enjoying the ride.”
