After seeing The Wooden Sky play a wonderful set at Raw Sugar Cafe, I decided to head down to Mavericks to catch Shout Out Out Out Out.
It had been two years since the band last played in Ottawa, so I was excited to see what they had in store. At least they’re still around and haven’t broken up, which is always good news.
Sadly, I didn’t get to see Freedom or Death play, but I heard they put on a good set.
All six members of Shout Out Out Out Out somehow managed to fit onto Mavericks’ small stage, with one member even throwing in some high kicks during the performance.
When they kicked things off, they immediately tore the place up with their electro-dance sound. It’s still captivating to watch the band’s two drummers playing in perfect unison. The energy was infectious, and I couldn’t stop dancing.
They also previewed a few new tracks from an upcoming album, which will likely be released sometime in 2012. One of the new songs even had a bit of a slower Caribbean groove to it, which I really liked.
There’s just something about Shout Out Out Out Out that brings out the dancer in me. I haven’t danced like that in quite some time—the last time was seeing Girl Talk at RBC Bluesfest.
This time, though, I actually had plenty of room to move around. The last time they played at Babylon Nightclub two years ago, it was complete chaos, with people pushing each other around like it was a mosh pit.
I totally enjoyed the set and can’t wait to hear the new album when it comes out.
Here are the rest of the photos.
