Is Smashing Pumpkin‘s “Siamese Dream” considered one of the best albums of the 1990s?
It should be, since it made such a lasting impact during that decade.
With that in mind, “Siamese Dream” will be re-issued on November 29, 2011.
Can’t believe it’s been 18 years since the release of that album!
I’ve listened to most of the second disc, which is filled with demos and alternate takes from the original.
What I really wondered about was what the acoustic mix of “Disarm” would sound like.
Basically, it’s the same as the original but the guitar part has been stripped away, making it more orchestral sounding.
“Disarm” was the first song that got me loving Smashing Pumpkins, as well as the first CD single (imported from the UK), which I bought before getting “Siamese Dream”,
Something about that song just gets me. The lyrics are so profound, about the lost of innocence (in my interpretation of the song).
Have a listen to the “Disarm” (Acoustic Mix).

Being one of the biggest SP fans ever in my youth, I have nearly every single release they put out (minus some of those crazy French and Japanese imports), but including some very very rare and early vinyl (their first 7″ on Subpop, the SD singles 7″ collection AND a split 7″ with Katherine under the alias “Star Children”)! Oh the memories.
If you haven’t seen Viewphoria yet there’s an amazing electric version of disarm performed on some German variety show. It is my favourite version by far. Check it out!

I really didn’t like the electro-version of Disarm.
Remember seeing it on the MTV VMAs ages ago.
Ruined the originality of the song.
I should upload the BBC Radio 1’s Masterpiece where there was interviews and they played the whole album of Siamese Dream
