The Darcys – Endless Water (Review)

While we wait for the new The Darcys album.
Got a chance to listen to their debut album called Endless Water which was released in 2007.
The Darcys is a band from Toronto.
Their music is indie rock and Myspace says “Shoegaze”. Which I haven’t grasp what shoegaze sounds and looks like.

Still haven’t seen them live but heard good responses from those that have.
But did meet some of the members at NXNE while at Lees Palace where one of the members got some cuts on his face.

Upon listening to Endless Water, I was surprised with their sound of music.
With a name like The Darcys I would have compared them to The Wooden Sky, Great Bloomers
I’m A Ship is a hypnotic rock track.
Endless Water which surprised me the most because there is a mix of French-English which starts of slow and mellow and then later picks up very fast and energetic and goes back slow.
Its also one those epic songs.
Ultra reminds me of vintage Manic Street Preachers but with a rock and roll edge.
While the other tracks have that indie rock and insane guitar riffs.
Conceptual wise its a story about the journeys in the sea.

Best tracks:

  • Strange Fits
  • I’ve Been Sleeping
  • I’m A Ship
  • Endless Water
  • We Twin
  • Ultra
  • A Series of Prayers
  • When We Are A Wilderness
  • New Jr
  • These Ones Were Our Reveries

Overall I really enjoyed this album.
There is some British music influences when I hear this album.
Besides being like three years too late but hopefully the wait will be over when the new album comes out.
If I rate this, it would be 8.3/10.
