Young Galaxy – Shapeshifting [Streaming]

First album review of 2011.
Not even sure when this album will drop but I read its around February 2011.
I am talking about Young Galaxy‘s “Shapeshifting” album!
It seems like the band has taken a bold step in shifting their sound towards minimal techno/80s retro new wave, and the change appears to be well-received based on the buzz generated by the two leading singles.

The influence of producer Dan Lissvik from Sweden is notable, and it’s interesting to see the evolution of the band’s sound from the guitaring rock of “Invisible Republic” to a more upbeat and dance-oriented style in “Shapeshifting.”
The summery feel, along with the absence of slow rock ballads like “Firestruck,” suggests a departure from their previous album’s vibe.

It’s intriguing how the vocals are distributed in the album, with Catherine taking the lead in most tracks, showcasing her amazing singing abilities.
The variety of sounds and styles, from the dancey boom synth bass in “For Dear Life” to the mellow and surreal sounds in the final track “Shapeshifting,” indicates that Young Galaxy is indeed exploring new territories and taking creative risks.

The enthusiasm for the album and the positive reception of the leading singles bode well for the overall reception of “Shapeshifting.”
It’s exciting to see artists evolve and experiment with their sound, and it seems like Young Galaxy has successfully embraced this evolution with their latest release.
