I’ve been listening to Spirit Guides on and off on my iPod.
It was ranked #22 of my best Canadian albums of 2009.
Finally have a chance to do a review on this album.
After seeing Evening Hymns performance at the Black Sheep Inn on November 27, 2009.
Its looking to be a good 2010 for Evening Hymns, one being listed on CBC’s Top 10 Bands Destined to Break in 2010.
Evening Hymns’ album “Spirit Guides,” created by Jonas Bonnetta and featuring contributions from other talented musicians like Mika Posen, members of Forest City Lovers, The Wooden Sky, and Julie Fader, has left a deep and emotional impact on myself.
The context of Jonas Bonnetta’s personal experience with the loss of his father during the making of the album adds a layer of poignancy to the music.
The emotional depth and the way Jonas Bonnetta addresses the theme of loss without veering into the eerie territory is noteworthy. It seems like the album resonates with you on a personal level, especially in connection to the passing of your grandmother. Music has a unique ability to evoke and channel emotions, and it sounds like “Spirit Guides” has served as a powerful and relatable means of expressing and processing feelings of loss and sadness.
Your description of Jonas Bonnetta’s vocals conveying deep emotions is a testament to the authenticity and sincerity of his expression in the music. The fact that the album can be seen as a healing process for some listeners further underscores the therapeutic potential of music in dealing with profound and challenging experiences.
Music has a remarkable way of connecting people and providing solace during difficult times.
