Freddie Gibbs & Madlib – Harold’s [Music Video]

Written by Whatnik

Earlier this year Madlib & Freddie Gibbs dropped Piñata, a masterwork of sample-infused beat making and precisely rhymed braggadocio.
Madlib’s approach to music is in line with the late J Dilla, and Freddie Gibbs has an intelligent approach to mafia and inner city related lyrics. Harold’s is a perfect representation of the compromise that makes this album work.
Madlib’s low-fi, murky beats are cleaned up with a crystal clear, meticulous sample quality, while Gibbs’ hard-edged tone is smoothed over, without forgetting how he made his name.

Simply put, this track makes two wildly differently styles seem like apple sauce on pork chops. Your brain tells you it’s not going to work, but the result is incredible. Enjoy.
