The first night of Kelp 17 happened on May 5th at the Kichesippi Brewery.
It was very unique to hold it at a Brewery plant.
Despite having trouble finding beforehand. (Thanks for Google Maps being handy)
When I heard the sound check of Jim and the Mash Potato Mashers, I was like this is going to blow my ears away!

It was very unique to have it at a Brewery plants.
Wasn’t sure if 100 people could fit there but it happened.
There was a tour of the plant and how they made the beer.

Flecton Big Sky started off the show.
This time he was solo.
He played a really good set.
Raw and emotional set despite being sick.

Jim Bryson was up next.
The first song he did was solo.
Then when he got Mike Essoudry’s Mash Potato Mashers, it was a wonderful set.
Totally impressive having a unique approach having Jim’s tune in a lively matter with a brass band.
I would have wanted the show last longer but being in the industrial part of Ottawa and fears of the noise Bylaws, it was what it was.
I think Jim should have them back up in future live shows.
Surprised that the beautiful and talented Jill Barber was in attendance and sang a song with Jim.
This was an fun and amazing set to kick up Kelp 17.

After Jim was done, Mike Essoudry’s Mash Potato Mashers ended up with a lively set.
They were amazing!

Here are the rest of the photos.
Here are some of the videos I recorded.
