Braids, Pepper Rabbit and Born Gold @ Babylon Nightclub [October 15, 2011]

It was a sold out show at Ottawa’s Babylon Nightclub.
Playing at the show was:

The show started off with the newly named Born Gold.
Formerly they were called Gobble Gobble.
They have played before in Ottawa as their previous moniker.
This time it was their first time with the new name.
They played tracks from their full-length album “Bodysongs”.
If you haven’t been to their live shows, you are in for a treat.
Their set was filled with drums, shovels, stilts, synths, inflatable ghost and anything you can imagine to make fun dance-like sounds.
They surely bought the party on!
Alot of people dancing and even one of the Born Gold members was body surfing.
Surely one of the best sets of the evening.

Pepper Rabbit was up next.
I finally got to see a full set.
The first time I saw them was at this year’s Ottawa Folk Festival.
I didn’t stay long due to various stuff happening and with the strong winds.
Anyways they played a great poppy and moody set.
The lead singer rocked out (as I like to call) Harry Potter glasses.
I enjoyed the set and there was alot of swaying from the audience.

Lastly it was Braids to play.
The band is getting better and better with their live show.
They have meticulously crafted their music in a live setting.
The show was out of this world with their psychedelic experimental and dreamy pop music.
Started off with a new track. Of course they sand Glass Deers, Lemonade and Plath Heart from Native Speaker.
This time I actually sang the songs from them since Braids posted up the lyrics to the songs.
The audience was actually attentive and cheering to their music.
That last song (forgot the name) which they performed at the Polaris Music Prize 2011, just tore the roof off the place!

Looking back at the Braid’s set.
I can’t believe one year has changed from the last time they played in Ottawa in July 21 2010.
I know they played at Bluesfest and January 21, 2011.
But at the July 21st show, they only played to about 10 people.
Now they are playing to a packed venue.
They are making strides to get people loving their music and it definitely shows to how talented Braids is.

One of the best shows this year.
Here are the rest of the photos.

Here is a video I took of Braid’s set. Don’t know the name of the song since it was new.
