Sigur Rós, you can say is the one of the biggest act coming out of Iceland at the moment right after Björk.
Today’s the day that Sigur Rós drops their highly anticipated album.
It’s been four years since they released Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust (With a Buzz in Our Ears We Play Endlessly).
Valtari translated as “Steamroller” is their sixth studio album.
Comes as a surprised for most fans since they announced they were going on hiatus and Jónsi busy on his solo material.
Listening to the whole eight tracks, I completely fell in love with the band all over again.
Valtari is more of a atmospheric, luscious and beautiful soundscape album.
As I heard from BBC 6 Music that the band called Valtari as “A avalanche in slow motion”.
I feel the album is a mix between Takk… and Ágætis byrjun.
Mostly in tracks like Ekki Múkk, Varúð & Rembihnútur that starts off slow then with a high climatic sound.
Dauðalogn is the one that totally moved me. Maybe you have to thank “The Vampire Diaries” for playing that song on the Season 3 finale.
SPOILERS: Don’t watch it if you haven’t seen it.
Man song gets to me everytime I listen to it.
Then the album ends off with a gentle instrumental of Fjögur píanó (aka Four Pianos).
The consensus from critics and bloggers are up and down on the new album.
I for one for love this album!
It may not be accessible for radio due the tracks being more than five minutes (Unless they made radio edits?).
Even if the album is not as groundbreaking as previous efforts, they still know how to make a beautiful album.
Go and get Valtari if you are a big fan of Sigur Ros or a lover of ambient orchestral post-pop music.
