After the big show at Arts Court with The Constantines for Arboretum Arts + Music Festival.
I headed over to Gabba Hey! for the big after party show.
This was the show I was very eager and excited to see on a late Saturday night and a perfect end to the festival.
The first band to play was The Dirty Nil.
It’s been awhile since they last played Ottawa.
They just released a new 7″ called Cinnamon/Guided by Vices.
Totally a fun loud rocking set!
During the set Shehzaad of Greys joined them to sing Cinnamon.
At the end Luke literally smashed his guitar.
The second band to play was Greys.
Finally they got to play here.
The band has been touring all over North America with their full-length If Anything.
So much excitement to see them live!
It was the best set (better than the one I saw at the Horseshoe Tavern during NXNE)
Pure loud adrenaline rock!
During the set Kyle of The Dirty Nil joined them to sing Chick Singer.
The third band to play was WTCHS.
I was happy and excited to see them play.
Despite a short set of five tracks live.
They pull off an amazing experimental noise punk rock set!
Can’t wait for the new album next year!
Finally it was New Swears turn to play.
Things got very bonkers and looked like they let a lot of people in.
It was the band’s album release for Junkfood Forever, Bedtime Whatever.
Let’s say first minute of the song they were playing, everyone went insane!
Thank goodness I found a safe spot by being on the back corner of the stage.
While being stuck for the whole set, I just shrugged it off and had a fun time dancing to their music and shooting silly string into the crowd.
Which is why you see back shots of the band members than in front.
Looking at the photos, you can see how insane it was.
This was the first time I’ve been to a Gabba Hey! show where it was full and off the roof!
Anyways this ends my coverage for Arboretum Festival.
Definitely shows that Ottawa is not a boring city.
Here’s hoping for next year’s festivities!
