Born Gold – Bodysongs [Review]

It’s going to be a force of habit to call a band by their previous name.
Which is the case for Born Gold who were formerly known as Gobble Gobble.
With the name change you would expect a change in the band’s music.
Quite so but I still think they kept the same sound but with a new band name.
Bodysongs is their first full-length album which dropped on September 20, 2011.

If you wanted to know why they changed their name, Cecil says about it:
“We have been slowly coaxing this caterpillar into a butterfly with our fists.
Check it out, girl – a new face to fit both our past to date and the futuresex we are slowly growing into.
Stand before a mirror, hold your palm over your right eye, and repeat Born Gold six times.”

It’s ten tracked filled with high energy futuristic (sometimes spastic) dance pop music.
Most of the tracks have been released as singles.
Think of it as a greatest hits package for those who supported the band.
Or it can be a introduction for those who never heard of their music.

I truly enjoy this album.
Got myself dancing around to every track.
The music can be uplifting but lyrically it can be sad, dark and thought-provoking.
Case in point with the song Decimate Everything.
break your records
burn your clothes
we will not grow old if we
decimate everything

One of the quirkiest and wildest records I’ve heard in 2011.
Best tracks:

I’ve give Bodysongs 10/10.
Don’t forget Born Gold will be opening up for Pepper Rabbit and Braids on October 15, 2011.
Literally their shows is “out of this world”!
