Boyhood [EP Review]

boyhood ep Cover Art
Finally took the time to listen to the debut EP by Ottawa’s Boyhood.

Boyhood is the brainchild of Caylie Runciman.
I happened to catch them live on December 30, 2011.
Listening to the whole EP, I was really impressed with it.
Has that grungey lo-fi pop rock sound to it.
Very much like the music of the defunct Calgary band Women.
The standout track in my opinion is Where I’m Going.
Think of Portishead if they went lo-fi and still maintain that trip-hoppy dazey sound.
Best tracks:

  • Heat (via)
  • Maintain My Uncool (via)
  • Where I’m Going (via)
  • Gone

The EP is free to download on Bandcamp.
Can’t wait to hear more from Boyhood in the coming months.
I’d give the EP 8.5/10.

Boyhood will be opening up for Yamantaka // Sonic Titan at Ottawa’s Babylon Nightclub on February 3rd.
