The third night of CityFolk Festival brought a wave of nostalgia with a lineup steeped in ’80s and ’90s alternative and rock on the main stage.
Headlining was the ever-controversial Morrissey who famously known for his strict “no-meat at the festival” policy.
I only caught the first half-hour of his set, but it was like stepping back into the ’80s.
The crowd lit up when he played two beloved tracks from The Smiths, while his solo material also resonated with longtime fans.
It ended up being a drama-free show from the audience, which is always a win when Morrissey is involved.

Sharing the bill were English alternative rock and indie pop icons James, who delivered a heartfelt and high-energy set. By the third song, Getting Away With It (All Messed Up), frontman Tim Booth dove straight into the crowd, singing while surrounded by fans—a moment that perfectly captured their warm connection with the audience.

Opening the main stage earlier in the evening was Montreal’s Mint Simon, who set the tone with a shimmering blend of indie synth-pop and rock.

Meanwhile, the Fasken Stage offered a different vibe, leaning into indie folk and roots.
Highlights included the Americana-tinged energy of The Devil Makes Three, the introspective storytelling of Kaia Kater, and a hometown set from Ottawa’s School House, rounding out a night that balanced both nostalgia and discovery.
