Gabe Levine – Long Spun Thread [Review]

Long Spun Thread Cover Art

For fans of Sackville (1994-2002) and Black Ox Orkestar (2000-2007)
Gabe Levine is one of those musicians you definitely need to check out.
One of those musicians who was unheard in 2010 and should be heard in 2011.

His music is experimental folk-pop with alot of great songwriting lyrics.
Listening to his album “Long Spun Thread”.
Its ten great tracks of catchy indie folk-pop tunes.
There is some intimate feel when listening to him sing on each track.

When I listen to Out on the Gold Coast, reminds me of the Wooden Sky song’s “My Own Ghosts” but with a East Coast flavor.
While Cruel Youth reminds me of those 1950s jazz croonin/Michael Buble like song but more of a unique style.
Overall I totally enjoyed this album.
Best Tracks:

  • Believe Me (via Herohill)
  • After and Before
  • Long Spun Thread
  • Honey all the Way Down
  • Out on the Gold Coast
  • Shake Out Your Shoes
  • Cruel Youth
  • Friends in Bed

Gabe will be in Ottawa on January 14, 2011 for a house show.
You should definitely check him out live.
I’d give Long Spun Thread 9/10.
