Today the Los Angeles-based musician Julia Holter dropped the beautiful and hypnotic music video for Sun Girl.
The leading single is taken from the upcoming album called sixth album called Something in the Room She Moves which comes out on March 22, 2024 via Domino Records.
A beautiful experimental moody hazy pop tune.
About the track by Julia:
Sun Girl is a whimsical and captivating, the track weaves a colourful palette of field recordings, samples, and instrumentation, and a lyrical message depicting such playfulness as stepping out of one’s comfort zone.
Accompanying this release is a psychedelic video by the artist and animator Tammy Nguyễn.
Fragments of flute, field recordings, Yamaha CS-60, bagpipes, mellotron, drums, and fretless bass are interwoven to delirious and balmy effect, infusing the ludic drum programing and production style of Holter’s earliest recordings with a fresh vibrancy.
The song’s lyrics – “Place me, drag me, move me, Sun Girl”—evoke the spirit of a childlike game, but also, says Holter, “being brought out of my comfort zone—into the unknown, playfulness and chaos.”
