Loving – If I Am Only My Thoughts [Review]

This album came out on January 31, 2020. (Despite what we are dealing with at the moment. Do support them whatever you can!)
Loving crept up last year and finally in 2020 they finally released their long awaited debut album called If I Am Only My Thoughts via Last Gang Records.
Think of the song by Gilbert O’Sullivan called Alone Again (Naturally) with its soft folk and pop rock music vibe on the whole which has that style but more lo-fi of a genre.

About the group and album:
Loving’s intimate, lo-fi psychedelic folk songs inspire a sense of ease, yet are deceptively intricate. They offer a space to ruminate in life’s uncertainties and acknowledge the often strange journey of being alive.

After a highly acclaimed self-released EP, which organically found success online, Loving return with their first full-length album, If I Am Only My Thoughts, which sees its release today on Last Gang Records. Have a listen to the title track here, and watch the video for Lately In Another Time here.

The Victoria, BC-based band is the collaboration of David Parry and brothers Lucas and Jesse Henderson. With lyrics written by both Jesse and Lucas, the lush, homespun collection of songs was recorded to tape, mixed, and mastered by David in his self-described “cold, dismal” basement studio in Victoria. In contrast, these songs are balmy and inviting, comprised of a series of open-ended questions that circle existential themes.

If I Am Only My Thoughts gets:
/10.
